I love listening to music when I run. Certain songs get me energized, and helps to quickly pass the time. Plus, running is a method of relaxation for me, and I enjoy being able to just zone out and focus on the music. I have a crazy long running playlist that changes constantly according to my mood.

With the completion of my first half marathon recently (13.1 miles!), I decided to pound out the first few hours with house music via Kaskade. House music is akin to white noise, always in the background, enough to keep me occupied, but not so much that it becomes distracting. The last hour was dedicated to my go-to energizer music: rock, hip-hop, and pop. Lots of bass, tons of heavy beat.

Below is my half-marathon playlist:

Kaskade’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix (2 hours). Listen to it here.

Janelle Monae – Faster

Jay Z – Run this Town

Jay Z & Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind

Jay Z & Kanye West – No Church in the Wild; Monster

Joan Jett – I Love Rock and Roll

Kanye West – Stronger; Power

Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

Missy Elliott – 4 My People

Muse – Supermassive Black Hole

Nneka – Heartbeat

Nikki Minaj – Superbass

Outkast – BOB
