It’s been a while since I’m participated in this event. Glad to be back. It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we’re reading, plan on reading, or finished reading. The new year has so far brought frigid temps (for spoiled southern californian’s loose definition of frigid, that is) and subsequent feelings of lethargy and sluggishness. Thus, I have spent (too) much of my time recently snuggled in bed with hot tea and books. I think I need a reboot, stat.
What about you? What’s on your reading list this week?
It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we’re reading, plan on reading, or finished reading. This past week has been momentous – I completed my very first half marathon (13.1 miles!) and finally purchased my bridesmaid dress. Best part about the dress is that it’s completely not bridesmaid-y which means that the dress can get additional use after the wedding. Score!
Speaking of score, I’ve also scored with some amazing indie reads as of late. Case in point:
I’m only about a quarter of the way, but am loving what I’m reading so far. Girl goes on personal road trip to find self, meets hot yet mysterious boy along the way, sparks fly. Sign me up.
CHARADE’s about a hook-up that turns into something more, ROCK THE HEART’s about a rock star and his former high school love. Both great reads!
Upcoming: To be honest, I don’t have any books in my TBR pile this week since I know myself well enough to know that I won’t get a lot of reading done between Thanksgiving mania, Christmas shopping, and just catching up on life. I’m anticipating getting back in the swing of things after Thanksgiving.
I hope that you and your loved ones enjoy the giving and the mania of this holiday season. What’s on your reading pile this week?
It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we’re reading, plan on reading, or finished reading. The last few weeks I have been running around – literally – as I continue to prepare for my half marathon next weekend. As part of my “preparation”, I also completed the Awesome 80’s 10K run with my cousin for her birthday. SO MUCH FUN. I ended up channeling 80’s Workout Barbie, from the electric blue leggings to the hot pink leg warmers to the one shoulder sweatshirt and of course, the high side pony.
- The Serial Killer Whisperer by Pete Earley – the true story of a man who experiences a Traumatic Brain Injury as a teenager, subsequent personality shift, and ends up writing letters to incarcerated serial killers, who just happen to write back to him. This is a morbid book and not for the faint of heart, as Eearley incorporates excerpts of the actual letters.
- Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson – got pushed back the last few weeks in lieu of morbidity (see above) and teen crush (see below), but am determined to finish
- All the President’s Men by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein – saw the movie recently and immediately went to my nearest library to check out this book. Cannot believe this was the reporting that eventually brought down a presidential administration. Restores my faith in investigative journalism.
Just Finished (full reviews to come, I promise!):
- Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout – The action. The romance. The twist(s). Team Aiden FTW.
- In the Band by Jean Haus – parentified female drummer, hot but sensitive guitarist. Found a new author to love.
- Happy Hour (Racing on the Edge) by Shey Stahl – not a bad indie debut, but can definitely use an editor, and a less-is-more approach when comparing car parts to body parts. a few times is cute, even tongue-in-cheek. every single time is overkill.
- The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin – a genuinely suspenseful, well-paced, sexy sequel
Hmm, didn’t realize until now that the books I just finished reading were YA and books I’m currently reading are non-fiction/biography. Go figure. What about you? What are you reading?
It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we’re reading, plan on reading, or finished reading. I’ve been busy trying to get ready for my half-marathon next month, but life and sucky heat waves have been getting in the way of that. Wish me luck, because I will definitely need it.
I’m by no means a techie, so a lot of the technical info and anecdotes go over my head. But, I am so far enjoying reading about the complexities and dichotomous persona of Steve Jobs. My favorite quote so far: “Because I didn’t know it couldn’t be done, I was enabled to do it.” -Bill Atkinson, early Apple employee
Full review to come, but in a snapshot: am I the only one that thinks the cover model looks very similar to Taylor Swift? No? Okay, then. Moving on: Cole Holland can save me from zombies anytime. Loved the premise and the nod to the original story.
A good read, but didn’t leave a big enough impression on me. Interesting twist with the vampires, but it reminded me too much of Julie Kawaga’s THE IMMORTAL RULES and the Sookie Stackhouse series.
Knowing me, come October 23rd I will have dropped all other reading material to get started on the last of the Hush Hush series. I’m choosing to ignore the grumbling on the interwebs about how the series was originally a trilogy/addition of a fourth book as a marketing scheme for Fitzpatrick/yadayada…and instead focus on the fact that we get to have more Patch. And Nora. And a big showdown between the Fallen Angels and Nephilim. Why, yes please.
It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we’re reading, plan on reading, or finished reading. This past month has been horrible: I had a head cold that I couldn’t shake for a while leaving me cranky, experienced more stress at work than usual, and fell behind on my marathon training. While I’ve been reading to cope, I haven’t been in the mindset to blog. Hey, sometimes life happens. It’s times like this when I’m glad this blog is fairly small and I don’t feel as much pressure as I’m sure other bloggers do to constantly update. BUT, I can joyfully say that I’m feeling better, work has become more manageable, and I’m back on track with my marathon training. Here’s to getting this blog back on track as well!
With any Nicholas Sparks novel, I know I am going to love the prose, the southern backdrop, and the moving romance. It’s kind of crazy, I know, to pair a Sparks novel with a dark dystopian such as the latest Razorland book from Ann Aguirre, but I’m all about balance these days. I didn’t love the first book from Aguirre, ENCLAVE, so we’ll see how OUTPOST goes.
I’ve been into a pretty big rock star/”bad boy” reading phase lately. There’s just something about hot men with talent and a vulnerable side hidden beneath arrogance that I can’t help but love in my fantasy reading life.
I’m a pretty big Paulo Coelho fan since reading THE ALCHEMIST (who isn’t?). The premise for his latest read seemed confusing, but intriguing – but then again, that’s how I always seem to feel with every Coelho read. I’ve also been a fan of Pete Earley’s non-fiction works since reading CRAZY.
So, there’s my reading list so far this week. It’s definitely on the eclectic side, but that’s why I love reading across genres. It gives me something new to think about. What about you? What’s on your list?
It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we’re reading, plan on reading, or finished reading. It’s been a grueling work week, but I finished out the week nicely with dinner with friends and much needed quality time at the gym. Plus! I finally nailed the standing head to knee pose during a recent Bikram Yoga class, which made me a very happy yogi.
I’m behind on reviews, but determined to catch up this week. What about you? What are your reads for this week?
It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a bookish meme hosted by Book Journey that spotlights what we’re reading, plan on reading, or finished reading. We’re in the midst of a heat wave, so this past weekend I retreated to LA to visit friends, where we pretty much camped out at the beach and stuffed our faces at our favorite restaurants. How I got some reading done, I honestly don’t know.
I only have one book on my TBR list week since I’m behind on reviews and work’s been crazy. I’m trying to be more realistic with my TBR list as of late. Wish me luck!
