Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock

HEMLOCK, Peacock’s first novel, can be thought of as a hybrid of the Sookie Stackhouse series and X-Men on the CW. In HEMLOCK, werewolves are created as a result of a virus and the public is aware of them. When Mac’s best friend, Amy, falls victim to a werewolf attack, Mac is determined to hunt her killers.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. The pacing and suspense were nicely drawn out. I liked the political aspects and allusion to internment camps. The love triangle could be spotted from a mile away, but Peacock portrayed Jason and Kyle as two very different, yet very compelling men vying for Mac’s heart. The ending was heartbreaking, but sets itself up nicely for a sequel.

Overall: 3.5  out of 5 stars
